| "Tehta Melia" |
| Melia is my husband's grandmother, "Tehta". When I painted this in 2000, she was 102 years old. She lives in a village in the southern mountains of Lebanon. She still gets up with the sun to work her land growing olives, grapes, peaches and other fruits. I have not met Tehta Melia, but feel I know her through painting this portrait and hearing stories from my in-laws. Her wisened face and labored hands were wonderful to paint. |
